MerikarviaThe vitality of the company depends on enabling multi-location, now and in the future.

In brief

MerikarviaThe municipality is investigating the willingness of permanent residents, leisure residents and companies to acquire a fiber optic connection. Interested parties are asked to fill out a digital preliminary agreement form via the municipality's website. The preliminary agreement will enter into force when all the conditions set for the implementation of the project are met, and will expire if the feasibility conditions are not met. A preliminary assessment form was distributed to every household in Merikarvia on Thursday, December 2, 2021, in a paper mailbox. Mailboxes have been brought in for the return of the forms Merikarvian To K-Market, S-Market, Pharmacy and the municipal office. The completed form can be returned to these mailboxes.

Responses are requested as soon as possible, but no later than December 31.12.2021, 2022, so that the responses can be utilized in making future investment decisions. The expression of interest and the fulfillment of the preliminary agreement are therefore of paramount importance for the progress of the project. If the project is implemented, the estimated construction date is 2024-XNUMX.

Implementation of the fiber optic network project

Based on the preliminary agreements, the feasibility of the project can be assessed and it can be investigated in which areas there are enough committed subscribers. If, based on the preliminary agreements, areas with a sufficient number of willing subscribers are found, funding is applied for to build the fiber optic network, the amount of which is 50-70% of the total costs of building the fiber optic network.

A positive support decision requires a sufficient number of committed subscribers and is a condition for starting the construction of the fiber optic network. Without a positive support decision, the construction of the fiber optic network will not take place.

Subscription price and other costs for the subscriber

The estimated price of the connection is approximately 1500-2000 euros. The upper limit of the implementation price is 2500 euros per connection. If this price is exceeded during the cost estimate phase, the project will not be implemented. The connection price includes excavation work on the plot, lead-through, fiber termination and necessary installations, i.e. the connection is made ready for use in the building to be connected. The person connected is responsible for the internal network of the building.

The portion of installation and excavation work carried out on a residential property is work that qualifies for a household deduction. In addition to the connection fee, the subscriber will be charged a service fee based on the speed and scope of the connection (compare with a telephone subscription), which is approximately 20-60 euros/month.

Construction of a fiber optic network

New fiber connections are most likely to be implemented where there are good implementation conditions and, in particular, demand for connections. The more homes, businesses or holiday homes that get white fiber connections, the cheaper it will be for everyone. So it is definitely worth mentioning the project to your neighbors.

The excavation costs account for the majority of the price of a fiber optic connection. It is good to have a larger group of subscribers to the fiber optic network at once, for example a neighborhood. This reduces costs compared to building the fiber connection to one home at a time. Those who join among the first during the project will get the connection cheaper than those who only take out the connection after the fiber optic network is completed.

Fiber optics offer versatile advantages

Investigations have been carried out Merikarvialla before, but over the past couple of years the situation has changed significantly, as the need for efficient telecommunications connections has grown radically. Remote work has become part of the everyday life of both permanent and leisure residents, and many companies' systems require efficient connections to function. Devices that would benefit from a stable internet connection have also been introduced to farms. The current network is overloaded, especially during the summer and on weekends, in many households.

Fiber optics provide an uninterrupted and worry-free internet connection regardless of location, and the speed of fiber optics beats other connections, as the speed remains the same even if the number of users increases. Fiber optics will last at least fifty years in use after installation, and fast connections in the municipality confirm Merikarviacompetitiveness and vitality. Businesses and farms can adopt the latest technology with the help of fiber optic connections, and MerikarviaThe attractiveness of a city as a place to live increases when telecommunications connections meet modern needs.
