PORI REGION WASTE MANAGEMENT DIVISION DECIDED ON WASTE CHARGES – BIOWASTE DISPOSAL FEES WILL DECREASE

The Pori Region Waste Management Division has decided at its meeting on 25 November 2025 on a new waste fee for waste under the responsibility of the municipality under Section 24. The new fee will enter into force on 1 January 2026. The fee includes the eco-fee, fees for the Hangassuo waste centre and sorting stations, emptying prices for bio- and packaging waste, and fees for regional collection points for mixed waste. For regional collection, the fee covers the Lavia area and the island properties of Pori. The fees for the Hangassuo waste centre form the basis for the share of the mixed waste collection processing fee for the entire area.

The most significant changes in the new waste tariff:

  • Bio-waste disposal prices: Biowaste disposal prices will decrease by approximately 7 percent. Biowaste collection costs will be partially covered by mixed waste processing fees.
  • The pricing for small importers at the Hankassuo waste center will change: In the future, the Hangassuo scale will no longer weigh waste loads from small importers, but charges will be determined on a cubic basis, as at other sorting stations in the Collection Center. With the pricing reform, small importers' charges will be unified at all Collection Center locations. The Hangassuo waste center scale will only serve business customers in the future.
  • Price examples: Examples of the most common large mixed waste, such as armchairs, sofas and mattresses, have been added to the tariff to make things easier.
  • Packaging waste fees: The impact of producer responsibility compensation is taken into account in packaging waste disposal fees. Compensation paid by producer organizations slightly reduces the disposal prices for glass, cardboard packaging and metal.
  • Social services offices are no longer subject to the waste tax: With the amendment to the Waste Act, social services, such as assisted living facilities, will be removed from the scope of municipal responsibility and eco-fees.

The new waste fee will be valid from 1 January 2026 in Pori, Ulvila, Kokemäki, Harjavalta, Nakkila, Merikarvialla, Pomarku and Siikainen. The tariff will be available in its entirety from 5 December 2025 to 5 January 2026 on the websites of the owner municipalities.
