It's time for summer composters to get their composters going again. Summer composters refer to properties where biowaste is composted during the summer season, but during the winter season, a biowaste container that needs to be emptied at the Collection Center is in use. The summer season for biowaste collection began this week, 18. Now is the time for summer composters to put their summer composters into use and start making soil. The final emptyings of the biowaste containers of summer composters are done according to the container's rhythm, and it may be emptied for the last time in week 21.

The summer season also brings changes to some of the emptying intervals for biowaste containers. The emptying interval for solid-walled biowaste containers will increase to two weeks during the summer season (weeks 18–40) in properties where the emptying interval is four weeks during the winter season. The change does not apply to ventilated biowaste containers, which are emptied every four weeks all year round.

Biowaste container washing cycle underway

Biowaste containers are washed twice a year. The washing truck always empties the biowaste container before washing, and this irregular emptying is part of the washing service and is free of charge. The spring washing of biowaste containers will move to Itä-Pori next week and then proceed to Ulvila, Nakkila and Harjavalta. The biowaste container of summer composters can be washed even after the last emptying, so the container should be kept in place by the roadside so that the washing can be completed.

Composting information from the composting park

If composting is something you are thinking about and feels difficult, Keräämö organizes free composting information sessions at the Hanhiluoto Composting Park in Pori. The park displays various composter models and brands. At the information sessions, an expert will guide you through the practical aspects of composting and solve the most common problems. The composting park is located at Kirjurinluodontie 10, behind the former Green Information Center. The information sessions are open to the public and participation does not require advance registration.
