Traffic routes

The technical department is responsible for maintaining the traffic routes under the responsibility of the municipality:

• road plans 28 km
• other roads 7 km
• light rail 2.5 km
• boat lanes 42 km

Streets and roads

Road plowing, anti-slip, dust control and road sealing are provided as a purchased service by external contractors, who are put out to tender by the technical department every year.

Private roads

Private road matters, including private road grants, are decided by the road division under the technical committee, with the technical director acting as the rapporteur.

A private road is eligible for a private road subsidy if it has at least one property in permanent residential use along it. The length of the road section to be subsidized must be at least 400 m. In 2022, private roads were subsidized at €294/km and 70 private roads applied for the subsidy. Starting from 2022, private road subsidies will be applied for again annually. Applications for subsidies are available from the municipal office's advice center and on the municipality's website.

Boat lanes and routes

Merikarvian coastal small boat route map series (Pori-Kasala) is on sale at the municipal office and at the Galleria Vanhassa Savu (Varvintie 13) during their opening hours. The price of a 5-part map is €20.
