MerikarviaThe coat of arms of the municipality features a ship that has faced both headwinds and tailwinds during the municipality's 150-year history. The sea is the rocky field of the Merikarvia people. It has become even more rocky due to land uplift. The landscape has changed and so have the living conditions.

Although the administrative structures of municipalities and regions have collapsed, Merikarvia has retained its identity. It has sailed through years of war and economic crises. Sailing directly into the wind is not possible, you always have to take a tack. Merikarvian is strongly involved in digitalization and international activities – we have a strangely cozy and comfortable atmosphere.
