Library
MerikarviaThe library is located at Koulutie 3. The current library was designed by chief architect Lauri Sorainen and was opened in the summer of 1989. Library operations began Merikarviaalready in 1860. At that time the idea was "useful and enjoyable reading for the general public... to borrow books from the institution." The basic idea has remained the same for these 160 years. Today, traditional paper books and magazines have been replaced by e-books and audiobooks. In addition to these, customers are offered a variety of audiovisual recordings.
Merikarvian's own collections contain over 40,000 titles. On top of this, there are the collections of all the other Hundred Libraries, so there is plenty of choice for customers of all ages.
