Study information

Our civic college operates in accordance with regional recommendations and municipal decisions.

The fall semester begins in week 38 and ends in week 48, unless a different date is announced in the program for the course. The fall break is in week 43, and as a rule there is no teaching then, with some exceptions. Check the meeting times of the course with the teacher and/or online for the meeting times for the course.

Registrations online: opistopaveltu.fi/merikarvia

You can register for courses online or by phone Mon-Fri 9 am–12 pm and 12:30 pm–3 pm, tel. 044 7246 325. You can also register at the Rysä kiosk square.

All courses require advance registration online or by phone. Courses will only start if there are enough participants.

Minimum number of students for courses to take place:

  • Merikarviaand Siikainen city center courses: 6
  • Courses in villages and short courses lasting less than 10 hours: 5
  • language courses for 4 people.

Course fees are determined by the decision of the Education Board. The length of a lesson is 45 minutes. Short courses are priced separately. Course fees may be changed by decision of the principal or the board.

Students pay the semester-specific course fee online when registering or as an online payment once the payment link has been sent. You can pay the course fee at the Rysä leisure centre cash desk during its opening hours. If you request a paper invoice, it can no longer be paid at the advice centre or at Rysä, but will be paid as paper invoices. We reserve the right to add an invoicing surcharge to the paper invoice. If the payment of the course fee is delayed, the payment link will stop working and paper invoices will be sent automatically in the autumn at the latest before the turn of the year and in the spring before the summer holidays.

The tuition fee is mentioned separately for each course in the program. If a student discontinues their studies, the fee is not refunded. The first introductory visit is free of charge, but the full course fee is charged for at least two visits. NOTE! * You cannot participate in a special course for free even once. The free trial session does not apply to individual tuition either!

Cancellations
Course registrations are binding. If you cannot attend the course, please notify the school secretary (not the teacher!) as soon as possible by calling or emailing. Cancellations cannot be made via text message! It is important to cancel your place in time, as there may be willing participants on the course waiting list!

Study voucher
Some courses mention the term Study Voucher Course in the course fee. This means that these courses receive special government funding and are free for their target group. Study Voucher courses will have a mention of whether the course is a Study Voucher Course.

Fitness and energy vouchers are accepted as payment methods
Epassi and Edenred are accepted as payment methods for the college's course fees. If you use mobile payment to pay for courses, please notify the office (paper vouchers will be delivered to the college secretary and a receipt for electronic payment will be sent by email to: anu.kauraoja@merikarvia.fi) AT LEAST TWO WEEKS after the start of the course. Once the course fee has been invoiced, you can no longer pay with a voucher. You cannot pay for materials with a culture or sports voucher. The above-mentioned sports and cultural benefits are personal, so they cannot be used to pay for the participation of family members.

Active card
The Active Card is electronic. A semester-specific Active Card costs €90. Cards are sold online and can be found in the same place as courses under course number 000111/K000111. The Active Card entitles you to study in teaching groups operating during the semester (note: courses that are not covered by the Active Card). Add the Active Card to your shopping cart in the same way as other courses and then select the “Price with Active Card” price for each course.

NOTE! If the course fee is more than €60, the excess will be charged to the student. The Active Card does not cover individual tuition, special courses, material, transportation or other special costs. An active card cannot be canceled.

Those who have redeemed an active card must register for study groups and, in the event of an obstacle, cancel their participation under the same conditions as other students.

Material fees
The student pays for the learning materials and raw materials they use. Some study groups make joint purchases, in which case the material fee is mentioned in the brochure or is agreed upon jointly at the beginning of the lesson. In this case, the student undertakes to purchase the learning materials and raw materials for himself.

Therefore, you always move around the school premises without outdoor shoes. Indoor shoes are allowed and recommended!
