Surplus harvest free of charge to Tiiliruukki sorting station and Hangassuo waste center

As autumn approaches, apples, plums and other garden fruits often accumulate more than your family needs. It is a good idea to regularly collect fallen fruit to deter rats and other pests. It is a good idea to share edible fruit with neighbors, friends or coworkers or take it to a juice shop. Apples in poor condition and unusable can be brought free of charge to the Tiiliruukki sorting station or the Hangassuo waste center, from where they are delivered to the Honkajoki Gasum biogas plant for utilization.

Compost spoiled apples in a food waste composter

Spoiled apples and other leftovers can also be composted in a rodent-proof composter designed for food waste. Open composters or composters designed solely for garden waste are not enough to keep pests away. Small amounts of garden fruit can also be put in a bio-waste container, as long as the container does not fill up too much and does not become too heavy.
